Avant’s journey began in 2001 when founders David Bong and Sheila Bong established an innovative partnership with Carl Falsgraf at the University of Oregon’s Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) to deliver competency-based tools to world language educators. Those tools created the foundation for continued proficiency assessment development for government and education clients around the world.

As our second decade gets underway with new leadership, we are excited to merge history with new experience and extend our expertise to a wider range of learners. We believe that Every Student Can learn and thrive with effective guidance and relevant, interactive tools to show what they can do.
