What is Avant WorldSpeak? ▼
Avant WorldSpeak is a Writing and Speaking language proficiency test of Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL). The Avant WorldSpeak language test was developed to address the needs of language communities for rigorous, professionally scored, and affordable assessments. Avant WorldSpeak requires a proctor during testing.
Who uses Avant WorldSpeak? ▼
Educators use the Avant WorldSpeak language proficiency test to qualify students for the state and Global Seal of Biliteracy, award credit by exam, measure student growth and evaluate programs.
What languages are offered in Avant WorldSpeak? ▼
The Avant WorldSpeak language proficiency test is offered in Amharic, Armenian, Chin, Czech, English, Filipino (Tagalog), Haitian Creole, Hmong, Ilocano, Samoan, Somali Maay Maay, Somali Maxaa, Tamil, Telugu, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese, and Yup’ik.
How long does it take to complete Avant WorldSpeak? ▼
The Avant WorldSpeak language proficiency test is not timed. Test takers may pause and resume Avant WorldSpeak at any point. Each skill can be taken individually or all in one sitting. On average, test takers take around 60-80 minutes to fully complete the assessment. Advanced level test takers can expect to have longer testing times than Novice level learners.

Is Avant WorldSpeak proctored? ▼
Yes, the Avant WorldSpeak language proficiency test needs to be delivered in a proctored environment. Proctors should be authorized by the administering organization.
How many prompts will learners encounter on Avant WorldSpeak? ▼
Writing: 4 prompts Speaking: 4 prompts
When will I receive Avant WorldSpeak results? ▼
Avant WorldSpeak Writing and Speaking scores are typically available in 10-12 business days. Scores will be available to teachers or administrators through an online Results Viewing Account.
How are testing results accessed? ▼
- Go to app.avantassessment.com/login
- Enter the WorldSpeak Teacher Test Code provided by Avant Assessment
- Enter the WorldSpeak Teacher Password provided by Avant Assessment
- Select Class/Testing Group
How often are the Avant WorldSpeak items updated? ▼
Due to the small numbers of test takers yearly, our refresh policy for WorldSpeak assessments is currently being reviewed.
Is there a handwritten Writing section option available for Avant WorldSpeak? ▼
No, a handwritten Writing section option is not available for Avant WorldSpeak.
What results reports are available? ▼
The Class Lists & Individual Reports show the Writing and Speaking levels attained on Avant WorldSpeak for each test taker. Individual reports can be printed or saved as a PDF. The Class List can be downloaded as an Excel file which includes the test taker profile information, individual test results, and other test-taking data.

What are the headphone requirements? ▼
We strongly recommend using USB style headphones that completely cover the ears, blocking out much of the surrounding sound, with built-in microphones. Smaller earbuds or foam headsets that sit on top of the ear will not produce the best results in terms of sound quality.

How are writing samples submitted for languages with accents and special characters? ▼
Avant's WorldSpeak language tests include a Writing section in which test takers will need to provide typed writing responses. The method for entering writing responses will differ depending on the target language of the test.
