Regional Account Manager
We are thrilled to announce Edgar Serrano has joined our team as a Regional Account Manager. Originally from Mexico City and with over 30 years of experience living in the United States, Edgar’s rich, culturally diverse and strong language background will undeniably prove to be an asset in our partnerships with language programs and organizations.
Edgar is not only an experienced business professional but also has extensive experience in language education. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a minor in International Marketing and a Master of Arts in Modern Languages from the University of Mississippi.
Before transitioning to the world of academia Edgar pursued a career in business, serving as the Director of International Sales for a leading furniture manufacturer. During this time he had the privilege of interacting, training, and teaching sales personnel around the globe. This experience not only increased his cultural competence but also highlighted the profound advantage of multilingualism.
This appreciation for languages led Edgar down a path of advocacy, specifically in promoting early language teaching. Edgar currently serves as the Executive Director of the Mississippi Foreign Language Association (MFLA) and is the President-Elect of the National Network for Early Language Learning (NNELL). Edgar is passionate about creating pathways to proficiency and was a driving force in the adoption of the Seal of Biliteracy in the State of Mississippi.
Edgar has received numerous recognitions for his work in the language field, including the MFLA Teacher of Excellence award in 2015. Edgar carried on his pursuit of excellence by later being named the National Teacher of the Year by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) in 2018 and recently earned the 2022-2023 Diversity Innovator Award from the University of Mississippi.
Edgar’s rich experiences, global perspective, and passion for language education are sure to bring valuable contributions to our team and partners.
