Avant STAMP for ASL and
Latin: Expanding Access to State
and Global Seals of Biliteracy
Avant is thrilled to announce that two new language assessments, STAMP for ASL and STAMP for Latin, are now eligible for the Global Seal of Biliteracy in addition to State Seals. This internationally-recognized credential certifies a person’s proficiency in two or more languages. The Global Seal is a valuable tool for individuals to showcase their language skills, opening doors to educational and professional opportunities. These assessments improve the teaching and learning of languages, further expand access and inclusivity for ASL and Latin language learners, and promote a more diverse and multilingual global community.
Avant STAMP for ASL
Avant STAMP for ASL is a first-of-its-kind computer-adaptive assessment for recognizing and validating ASL learners’ real-world proficiency in Receptive and Expressive skills. ASL is the primary language used by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in the United States. The inclusion of STAMP for ASL for earning the Global Seal increases equity and accessibility for this unique language and encourages its learning and proficiency acquisition.
Avant STAMP for Latin
Avant STAMP for Latin is a welcome addition to the list of assessments eligible for earning the Global Seal. Latin is a foundational language that has greatly influenced many modern languages, particularly Romance languages.
This assessment evaluates proficiency in the Reading skill. The inclusion of Latin for the Global Seal recognizes the value of studying classical languages and the insights they provide into our shared linguistic heritage.
The Impact of STAMP for ASL and STAMP for Latin with State and Global Seals of Biliteracy
The addition of STAMP for ASL and STAMP for Latin to the Global Seal of Biliteracy’s list of approved assessments represents a significant step forward in promoting linguistic diversity and inclusivity. By recognizing these two assessments, the Global Seal expands opportunities for ASL and Latin language learners to showcase their skills and gain access to educational and professional opportunities that may have been previously unavailable or more difficult to obtain without certification. All ASL and Latin learners now have greater opportunity to identify their strengths and improve their skills through assessment on their way to earning a seal.
This expansion not only validates the importance of ASL and Latin but also emphasizes the value of multilingualism in today’s interconnected world.
