The first Test Results screen (shown below) displays summary information for all test takers.
The Avant Score is calculated based on the Reading Comprehension, Reading Grammar, Writing and Speaking scores. It is an averaged score and any fraction is truncated. However, if the Total Average is at the upper end of the score, an asterisk displays to indicate that the test taker appears to be at the high end of the indicated Avant Score.
||The test taker has started but not completed the test|
|Grading In Progress||
||The test is complete, but grading is not complete for one or more responses|
||The test taker is not presented with this domain in the test for the specific language|
Graders were not able to rate the response in the section. To determine the cause, click on the grades in the Detailed Report to review the test taker’s responses. Possible reasons for “Not Ratable” responses include:
The Avant Score can be used to determine placement. Or, if an organization wishes to place more importance on a specific skill/domain, weighting factors can be applied. Cut scores are established by each organization administering the test. For additional information about Avant Scores, see Avant PLACE Suggested Levels or the Avant PLACE Product Description.
From the Results Summary, click the Report link to see additional information for a specific test instance. In addition to scores, this report shows Test Taker Profile information (highlighted in blue in the example below) and information from the Self- Evaluation screens (highlighted in green).
In order to present information on this screen, headings are abbreviated. To see the full heading for a data element, place your mouse over the field. For example, placing your cursor over the IM-L heading or the number below the heading will pop up a small window that says “Interpretive Mode Listening Self-evaluation.”
The top row shows the test taker name, test start date, information about the organization sponsoring the test, the language and the Avant Score.
The middle part of the display has profile and self-evaluation information on the left and scoring information on the right.
The profile and self-evaluation information includes the following information entered by the test taker:
Years of Language Study
Interpretive Mode – Listening
Interpretive Mode – Reading
Interpersonal Mode – Speaking
Presentational Mode – Speaking
Presentational Mode – Writing
Proficiency Self-Evaluation Level
The field labeled AVE shows a calculated average of the five self-evaluation modes listed above.
Test scores for Reading Comprehension and Reading Grammar show the number correct following by the number of items presented, the percent correct and the level achieved for the section. “In Progress” is displayed if the student has not completed the section. “Test Complete” is displayed if waiting for grading. For the Italian, Mandarin Simplified and Mandarin Traditional tests, a “No Items” designation will appear in the Reading Grammar score area because those tests do not include a Reading Grammar section. The Arabic test will also display “No Items” for the Reading Comprehension section, which is not included in the Arabic test.
If a test taker responds to all of the self-evaluation screens with the response “I have no functional ability with this language,” the test taker receives no test items, as it appears that the test taker has no knowledge base for testing. All self-evaluation elements and Total Average will show as zero and “No Items” is displayed in the score area for each section of the test.
To view or listen to the test taker’s Writing and/or Speaking response, click the score shown in that area of the detail report. The Writing response will be displayed. Click the Play button to listen to the Speaking response.
Test takers who experience technical difficulties resulting in Not Ratable scores can have their test reset back to that specific test section. The test taker will need to be instructed to re-take any reset section and sections that follow.
Contact Avant Client Support: Call 888-713-7887 or email email@example.com
You can also send an email to support for non-immediate requests and questions, listing the test taker's Login Name, Test Code and providing a brief description of the issue or topic to help the support team investigate the matter and provide a response.
Login Names can be located on the Teacher Results viewing account screens. Providing the exact Login Name ensures that we will reset/delete the desired login, as other logins are often very similar, and we would hate to delete any of their work unintentionally.
From the Results Summary screen, click Download Excel File to create an Excel version of the summary test results. Use the downloaded file to customize the data sort or adapt the data to your needs.
