MORE Effective Dual Language Immersion (MEDLI) is a global initiative with a mission to fulfill the promise of DLI– to create a world where every child is multilingual.

Avant STAMPe

Avant STAMPe is the gold standard for linguistically and developmentally appropriate language assessment content for learners ages 12 and under.

STAMPe tests have been approved for use as early as K-1.

STAMP 4Se tests Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking and is our most comprehensive assessment. This test takes, on average, two (2) hours to complete and is offered in 15 different languages.

STAMP WSe tests Writing and Speaking. On average, it takes one (1) hour to complete and is available in 2 languages.

Reading and Listening sections are multiple-choice and computer-scored with results available immediately. The Writing and Speaking sections are scored by our expert Avant Certified Raters.

Each section can be completed in any order and one at a time for more flexible testing times and durations.

Avant STAMP 4S

Originally developed by the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon more than 20 years ago, Avant continues to deliver STAMP all around the world.

STAMP 4S tests Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking and is our most comprehensive assessment. This test takes, on average, two (2) hours to complete and is offered in 15 different languages.

Reading and Listening sections are multiple-choice and computer-scored with results available immediately. The Writing and Speaking sections are scored by our expert Avant Certified Raters.

Case Studies

Anchorage School District’s Yup’ik immersion program, currently offered in grades K-5 and adding a grade each year until grade 12, utilizes the Avant STAMP 4Se assessment and the Avant STAMP WS in Yup’ik to measure and track student language proficiency growth throughout K-12. This language assessment, which the district helped develop, is designed to help the district address language preservation by providing a tool for evaluating the proficiency of Yup’ik learners with developmentally and linguistically appropriate content.

The Delaware Department of Education announced the adoption of Avant STAMP for all Delaware Dual Language Immersion (DLI) schools starting in the 2023-24 school year. The decision followed a thorough evaluation of proficiency data and assessment platforms, with Avant STAMP emerging as the ideal solution to meet the needs of students, teachers, and program leaders. This is the second state, after New Mexico, to select Avant as the single-choice vendor for language proficiency assessment.

The Hawaiian STAMP WSe language proficiency test was developed in a continuing collaboration with the Hawaii Department of Education and the Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani College of Hawaiian Language at the University of Hawaii at Hilo in an effort to meet the growing need for smaller language communities to have rigorous, professionally rated, and affordable assessments.

After careful vetting from a New Mexico Public Education Department task force, New Mexico selected Avant Assessment as its statewide contractor for language proficiency assessments. This assessment adoption provides immediate feedback for bilingual educators, allows schools and districts to benchmark students at each grade level and inform teaching in real time to improve learning outcomes.
